Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Tarcisio Lanuevo:
Fr. Tarcisio Lanuevo was accused of sexually abusing two young girls while serving at St. John the Baptist in San Lorenzo, California, in 1979. According to media reports, in 1993, the two girls filed a civil lawsuit, naming Lanuevo. Both victims claimed they dropped the criminal charges because the Diocese of Oakland promised that Lanuevo would receive treatment and would never again have access to children.
Lanuevo also allegedly sexually abused minors at St. Joachim in Hayward, CA in 1990. Lanuevo remained working in the Oakland Diocese until 1991 and then he was removed from ministry in 1992. In 1993, Lanuevo reportedly worked at the V.A. Domiciliary in Oregon, in the Portland Diocese.
He was listed on the Diocese of Oakland's 2019 list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor. He was directed to "lives of prayer and penance" with "minimal sustenance" from the diocese.
