Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Vincent Van Ter Toolen:

According to media reports, Father Vincent Van Ter Toolen was a Dutch Carmelite who served in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles from approximately 1963 to 1971. According to media reports, he was accused of child sexual abuse from 1962 to 1964, and has been named in one civil lawsuit. He left the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1970. One alleged victim came forward in 2002 alleging Father Toolen sexually abused him when he was ages 3 through 5, in about 1961. The claim was included with six others in a 2006 settlement of $10 million.

Father Toolen’s name appeared on the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. He is believed to have died in the 1990s. His whereabouts, status as a priest, and whether he had access to children from 1971 until his death are unknown.
