Summary of Abuse Allegations against Monsignor Ernesto Corral Villaroya:
Monsignor Ernesto Corral Villaroya was an extern priest visiting from the Philippines. He functioned as a priest despite not getting permission from the Archdiocese. In 1991, 1993, and 1995, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles sent Monsignor Villaroya three “cease and desist” letters after other clerics reported concern he was working in a parish. He is believed to have worked as a guest priest at St. Philomena in Carson, California for years before the first warning letter was sent in 1991.
Monsignor Villaroya was hired by the Diocese of Dallas in 1996 despite not working officially as a priest in 12 years. According to media reports, at least one survivor has alleged child sexual abuse by him in approximately 1983. It is believed a child was born of the abuse.
In 2002, a nun filed a civil lawsuit accusing him of rape in the mid-1980s. At the time the suit was filed, he was working as assistant pastor at St. John Nepomucene in Ennis, Texas. The Diocese of Dallas placed him on administrative leave once they learned of the lawsuit. It was dismissed in 2003, and Monsignor Villaroya was reassigned to St. Francis of Assisi in Frisco, Texas. Angry parishioners forced him to quit.
According to the 2010 Official Catholic Directory, he was listed as a retired priest living in the Diocese of Dallas. He is believed to have died in 2018. His name appeared on the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors.
