Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Angel Mariano:

Fr. Angel Mariano was ordained a priest in 1992 who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of San Jose. According to media reports, he was a cross-dresser who was convicted of child molestation in 1998 for performing oral sex on a with a 17-year-old boy while posing as a 25-year-old Hawaiian woman. At the time, he was serving as an associate pastor at Most Holy Trinity in San Jose. He was permanently banned from ministry that year.

Fr. Mariano was convicted and served five months in jail. He completed a sex offender treatment program at St. Luke’s Institute in Maryland and became a registered sex offender. After release from prison he moved to a Jesuit community at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos. In 2002, he was one of several clergy accused of sexually abusing developmentally disabled workers there in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Mariano was living in a Jesuit residence at Santa Clara University until he was expelled from the Jesuits order in late 2002.  He may be residing in the Philippines now.

In 2018, Mariano was included on the Jesuits West Province list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse, as well as on the Diocese of San Jose list. It noted he was dismissed from the Jesuits in November 2002.
