Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Joseph A Ferreira:
According to media reports, in November 2006, a woman filed a lawsuit alleging that Fr. Joseph A Ferreira repeatedly molested her at Our Lady of Good Counsel in San Leandro, California in 1973 and 1974 when she was in her teens. She also claimed that he continued to harass and stalk her throughout the years. The case was later settled out of court.
In June 2009, a second woman filed a lawsuit alleging that Ferreira also repeatedly sexually abused her when she was a minor from 1970-1972 at Our Lady of Good Counsel. According to media reports, the woman said he warned her not to tell anybody and said to her, "Daddy should never know about the special love we have for each other."
Ferreira was removed from ministry in December 1998. In 2019, his name appeared on the Diocese of Oaklands' list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors.
Ferreira died in 2014.
