Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Phillip Joseph Steigerwald:

In 2002, Fr. Philip Steigerwald was named in a civil lawsuit alleging child sexual abuse back in 1978. According to media reports, the lawsuit claimed that the Archdiocese of Portland knew prior to the abuse that Steigerwald was a danger to teenage boys due to previous reports while he was at Queen of Peace in Salem, Oregon. Steigerwald took a leave of absence in 1982 and again in 1983, working in the Archdiocese of San Francisco in between. The lawsuit was settled in 2003.
