Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Ruben Garcia:

Father Ruben Garcia was ordained for the Diocese of Boise in 1972. He worked at various parishes in Idaho, New Mexico, including in the Diocese of Santa Rosa. According to media reports, he was accused of sexually abusing a boy in Boise, Idaho in 1981. The Diocese of San Bernardino claimed it became aware of allegations in 1986, but did not report to law enforcement until 2006. Father Garcia left San Bernardino in February 1987.

In 1990, Father Garcia was incardinated into the Archdiocese of Tijuana in Mexico. In February 1994, he was named in a civil suit that alleged he sexually abused a boy in New Mexico, after treatment by the Paracletes in Jemez Springs. The case was ultimately settled. It was later revealed that Bishop Tod D. Brown of the Diocese of Boise wrote a letter of recommendation to the Archdiocese of Tijuana on behalf of Father Garcia, even though Bishop Brown was aware of his history of sexual abuse. Fr. Garcia is deceased.

In September 2017, Father Garcia was included in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe’s list of clerics accused of child sexual abuse. In October 2018, he was also included in the Diocese of San Bernardino’s list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse, as well as the Diocese of Santa Rosa’s list in January 2019.
