Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Stephen Speciale:
Fr. Stephen Speciale was ordained a priest in 1985 who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of San Jose. According to media reports, he was accused in a 2004 lawsuit of sexually abusing an 11-year-old boy on the grounds of Our Lady of Sorrows in Santa Barbara, California on at least two different occasions. He was named in another lawsuit alleging child sexual abuse in 1985-1986. The claim was settled in 1993 for $60k.
In 2018, Speciale’s name was included on the Jesuits West Province list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse. It noted an allegation was reported in 1991. his name was also included in the Los Angeles Archdiocesan Report. Information about the nature of the alleged sexual abuse is unknown.
Fr. Speciale was dismissed from the order in 1989. His status as a priest, current whereabouts, and whether he has access to children are unknown.
