Fr. Benjamin Cieply – Archdiocese of Miami

Father Benjamin Cieply

Archdiocese of Miami/Legion of Christ

Ordained: 2008

Assignment History:

  • Unknown

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Benjamin Cieply:

Fr. Benjamin Cieply was ordained in 2008 in Dallas, Texas, and transferred to the Archdiocese of Miami in 2015.

In 2016, Child Protective Services were contacted to report child sexual abuse. CPS could not substantiate the allegations. The archdiocese removed Cieply from ministry after their internal review and he was returned to the Legionaries.

Cieply was asked by the Legionaries to participate in the investigation of this claim in January of 2017 and then again in February of 2018. Cieply did not participate in the Order's investigation as he was claiming his innocence.

In 2018, investigators concluded that there is a high probability that he sexually abused a minor in 2016 during his probationary period in the Archdiocese of Miami. He was removed from ministry and his case was referred to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The Territorial Director of the Legionaries of Christ decided to act in accordance with their recommendation. Cieply will not be returning to ministry.

In 2018, Cieply was named publicly as accused by the Legionaries.

Very little is known of Cieply's activities within the church as the Archdiocese of Miami has not released any information about Cieply's assignment history. In addition, information about the age/gender of his alleged victim/victims, the nature of the alleged sexual abuse, or Cieply's assignments at the time of the alleged abuse is unknown.
