Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Eamon O’Dowd:

In 1977, Fr. Eamon O’Dowd was accused of sexually abusing two young girls. No charges were filed after he apologized, and it was dropped. In 1983, O’Dowd was arrested on charges of lewd assault for fondling a 12-year-old girl while assistant pastor of St. Charles Borromeo in College Park. Those charges dropped after he agreed to psychiatric treatment.

Reportedly, he had an affair with the girl’s mother. A civil suit was filed and settled in 1986 for $250K and files sealed. O’Dowd remained an active priest until he “retired” without privileges in 1995 after news of the 1983 incident became public. After serving Orlando, O’Dowd was sent to Palm Beach County, where he worked in churches in Boynton Beach and Lantana, Florida. Fr. O’Dowd died in 2009.
