Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Gerard LaCerra:

Fr. Gerard LaCerra was ordained in 1969. LaCerra completed his seminary studies at St. John Vianney College Seminary in Miami, Florida and St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, Florida. He was a former chairman of the Dade Interfaith Sponsoring Committee and a chaplain of the Miami-Dade Sierra Club.

In 2005, LaCerra was accused in a lawsuit of touching, fondling and sexually abusing youth in the early 1980s, after the youth told him he had been abused by numerous other priests in Miami and other locations. The suit settled in 2007.

LaCerra was Chancellor of the Archdiocese during the time of the alleged abuse. He was also accused of destroying incriminating files regarding other priests and protecting Rev. Neil Doherty, a prolific abuser.

Very little is known of LaCerra’s activities within the church as the Archdiocese of Miami has not released any information about LaCerra’s assignment history
