Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Jose Mena:

In 2005, Father Jose Mena was accused in a lawsuit of abusing a 5th-grade boy multiple times during the 1965-66 school year at Incarnation Catholic School in Florida. The suit was settled by the St. Augustine Diocese for $150K. At that time, Mena was retired and living in Jacksonville, Florida.

Two more suits were filed in 2008, and another in 2009, against Fr. Mena. The suits alleged abuse in the 1960s and 1970s in the Orlando Diocese. Fr. Mena fled to Spain. According to the reports found, Mena had already been accused of molesting children as early as 1994, but the church failed to take action against Mena.

In a nine-page therapist’s report in 1994, Fr. Mena was diagnosed as having a sexual disorder. Yet church officials quietly moved him to Immaculate Conception parish in Jacksonville, where he remained until 2002. It is reported that Mena has died, but the year is unknown.
