Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Ricardo Castellanos:

Fr. Ricardo Castellanos was accused in a 2002 lawsuit of sexually abusing a boy, ages 14-16, in the early 1970s. The abuse took place at Church of the Little Flower in Coral Gables, Florida, St. Kieran Church and LaSalle High School in Miami, Florida, and during overnight trips to Disney World and other trips as well.

There was a church-issued affidavit, signed by Castellanos, Alvaro Guichard, and the former altar boy in 1988 clearing them of wrongdoing. The boy died of AIDS five years later. The boys’ parents are the ones who decided to file suit.

Due to the statute of limitations, criminal charges were not pursued. There were at least four civil suits naming Castellanos as an abuser. Two of the claims were settled in 2004. Castellanos retired in 2005.

In 2012, there was another suit filed that claimed Castellanos abused a youth more than 150 times in about 1995 at San Isidro Church in Pompano Beach, Florida.

In 2020, Castellanos was listed in the Office of Statewide Prosecution’s Report On Sexual Abuse In the Catholic Church In Florida.
