Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Richard J. Allen:

According to media reports in 2002, Fr. Richard J. Allen was accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy for two years in the early 1970s while assigned to St. Petersburg’s Holy Family Catholic Church. Now an adult, the victim claimed that he would stay at the priest’s Clearwater home on some weekends when he was in his early teens because Allen was a trusted family friend.

Fr. Allen was suspended from his duties in 2002. The Diocese of St. Petersburg denied any prior knowledge of abuse. Fr. Allen died in 2007. Per his obituary, Allen was a licensed mental health therapist.
