In 2011, Sister Joan Marie was accused in a lawsuit filed of groping and fondling a first-grade boy in 1978-1979 at St. James Catholic School in North Miami, Florida. The abuse allegedly occurred under the guise of tucking in the boy’s shirt.

The accuser claims in a lawsuit that a Dominican nun repeatedly groped and fondled him several decades ago. According to media reports, the complaint stated that the abuse took place approximately twice a week for an entire school year. The defendants are the Archdiocese of Miami, the archbishop, the Dominican Sisters, and the school.
