Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Brother Antonio Antonucci:
Br. Antonio Antonucci, OSF, was a Franciscan monk who worked in the Spanish-speaking communities in Port Jefferson, NY, within the Diocese of Rockville Centre. In 1993, Antonucci was arrested for fondling a 15-year-old boy. He was acquitted three years later. In 2007, Antonucci was also named in a lawsuit against Fr. Albert Liberatore in Scranton, PA. According to the suit, Liberatore's victim went to Antonucci for help and that Antonucci encouraged him not to tell because it would ruin his life. In 2007, the court dismissed the "aiding and abetting claim" against Antonucci, which was part of the suit.
In 2020, a lawsuit was filed against the Diocese of Rockville Centre. The suit names Antonucci as a perpetrator of abuse between 1979-1981 when working at Infant Jesus Roman Catholic Church. The details of the sexual abuse allegations, including where the alleged abuse occurred, or the victim's age/gender, are unknown. He is listed on the Diocese of Rockville Centre's 2021 List of Clergy Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of a Minor.
According to a media report in December 2024, Antonucci reportedly molested three brothers at their home in Shoreham, New York. The youngest sibling was 6-years old at the time of the alleged abuse. The victims' mother reported their abuse to the parish staff in Port Jefferson.
