Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Dcn. Leonard Freyou:

Dcn. Leonard Freyou was ordained in 1980, and served in the Diocese of Lafayette. He taught CCD for 32 years at St. Nicholas Church in Lydia, LA, and also trained altar servers. Dcn. Freyou was an organist and choir director at both St. Nicholas and Our Lady of Perpetual Help for 17 years. In 1966 he was honored with the Papal Honor of Knight of St. Gregory by Pope John. He was ordained a permanent deacon of the Roman Catholic Church in June 1977. His class was the first class of deacons for the Diocese of Lafayette.

According to media reports, in April 2019, Dcn. Freyou was publicly named on the Diocese of Lafayette’s disclosure list of “deacons against whom credible allegations have been made regarding sexual abuse of a minor or vulnerable adult.” Information about the date, age/gender of his alleged victim/victims and the nature of the alleged sexual abuse was not provided by the Diocese of Lafayette.

Dcn. Freyou died in 2006.
