Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Eric Gyan:

Fr. Eric Gyan was ordained a priest in 1986 and served in the Diocese of Baton Rouge. According to media reports, in November 2017, an allegation of child sexual abuse against Fr. Eric Gyan was reported to the Diocese. According to the allegation, the woman (now in her 30’s) was abused when she was 10 years-old by Fr. Gyan while he was serving as pastor at St. John the Baptist Church. The abuse was reported to have occurred in 1996, and the accuser says that Fr. Gyan forced her to perform sex acts on him in the confessional.

Following the complaint, the Diocese of Baton Rouge appointed a task force to investigate the allegation. Gyan still served in the ministry pending the results of the investigation. In February of 2018, the Diocese of Baton Rouge announced that it could not substantiaate the abuse allegation against Fr. Gyan.  The Diocese said in 2017 that this was the only report of abuse it had received involving Fr. Eric Gyan.

Fr. Eric Gyan is currently the pastor at St. Theresa of Avila in Gonzales, Louisiana.
