Fr. Jody Simoneaux was ordained a priest in 1982, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Lafayette. According to media reports, in April 2019, he was publicly named on the Diocese of Lafayette’s disclosure list of “priests against whom credible allegations have been made regarding sexual abuse of a minor or vulnerable adult.” Information about the date, age/gender of his alleged victim/victims and the nature of the alleged sexual abuse was not provided by the Diocese of Lafayette.
According to media reports, the allegation of child sex abuse in the 1980’s against Fr. Simoneaux was received in 2018. The alleged abuse occurred when he was assigned to St. Anthony Church and St. Edmund High School in Eunice, LA, and St. Anne Church in Youngsville. Following the allegation, Fr. Simoneaux was removed from the ministry, and the allegation was reported to law enforcement. Investigations into the abuse by both the Diocese of Lafayette and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s office are ongoing.
