Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Francis O. Couvillion
In February 2019, the Diocese of Alexandria publicly named Fr. Francis Couvillion in its list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor. According to the list, Fr. Couvillion's file revealed multiple allegations of misconduct and abuse of male minors in the 1950s. The Permanent Review Board, which evaluates allegations of sexual abuse brought against clerical members, reviewed the evidence in Fr. Couvillion's file and determined the allegations were credible. Further details about the nature of the abuse are not publicly known at this time.
According to news reports, Fr. Couvillion also was Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop No. 165 of Plaucheville.
Ordained in June of 1936, Fr. Francis Couvillion served many parishes that now fall under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Shreveport. However, according to church protocol, files of accused clergy members remain with the Diocese of Alexandria. Fr. Couvillion died on February 18, 1978.
