Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Frank McManus:

Fr. Frank McManus was ordained a Jesuit priest in 1973, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Norwich.  According to media reports, in March 2002, he was removed from his position as hospital chaplain in New Bedford, Massachusetts after a man alleged the priest molested him as a teenager in the 1980s. He was a student attending Boston College High School at the time. The case settled for $600K in 2003.

In the early 1980s, another man alleged that Fr. McManus sexually abused him as a minor. He was reportedly so upset that the priest groped him twice that he returned his diploma to the high school in 1988.

McManus is named on multiple lists of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse. In 2019, his name was included on the Jesuits Northeast Province list, as well as on the Diocese of Norwich’s list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors. It noted between 2002-2005, allegations of child sexual abuse that took place from 1974-1985 amongst multiple minors were reported.

Additionally, McManus’ name was included on the Diocese of Knoxville 2020 list, as well as on the Diocese of Fall River 2021 list.

McManus died in 2015.
