Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. James Curry:

Fr. James Curry was ordained to the priesthood in 1949, and served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Norwich. According to media reports, in 1981 a housekeeper filed a complaint with Groton police against Fr. Curry alleging that he raped her 11-year-old daughter several times between 1980-1981 while he was assigned to St. Mary's Church. Following the allegation, Curry resigned from the church. The mother initially decided not to press charges because she did not want to expose her daughter to court proceedings; however, in 1983, the mother and her daughter refiled the complaint with police and filed a civil suit against Fr. Curry and the Diocese of Norwich. The suit was settled in 1986.

In February 2008, a lawsuit filed by a plaintiff under the pseudonym "Mary Doe" alleges that Fr. James Curry sexually abused the then 8-year-old girl hundreds of times over an eight-year period beginning in 1966. The alleged abuse took place when Curry was assigned to St. Mary's Church in Groton. According to the suit, Fr. Curry assaulted "Mary Doe" in the church sacristy, rectory, church center, and his car. Curry silenced the girl by telling her that if she disclosed the abuse she would "burn in hell for eternity."

In April of 2019, A 60-year-old man testified before a Connecticut Judiciary Committee that he had been sexually assaulted by Curry over a four-week period when he was 8 years old. The alleged abuse took place at St. Joseph in Noank, CT in 1967.

In February 2019, the Diocese of Norwich publicly named Fr. James Curry on its list of "clergy with allegations of substance abuse of a minor."

Fr. James Curry died in 1986.
