Fr. Joseph Owens – Diocese of Norwich

Father Joseph Owens

Diocese of Norwich (Jesuits)

Ordained: 1971

Assigned as follows:

  • 1970-1977 (Kingston, Jamaica)
  • 1978-1979 (Middlefield, CT)
  • 1980-1982 (Winterhaven, FL)
  • 1983-2002 (Honduras)

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Joseph Owens:

Fr. Joseph Owens was ordained a Jesuit priest in 1971, who served in multiple countries, as well as in the Diocese of Norwich. According to media reports, in 1992, he admitted to sexually abusing children for decades from the 1970s to the 1990s. His ministry was restricted in 1993 and was "impeded" in 2002.

Very little is known of Joseph Owens' activities within the church as the Diocese of Norwich has not released information about his assignment history. Owens resided in the Diocese and was assigned by religious superiors to work not affiliated with the Diocese of Norwich.

In 2019, Joseph Owens' name was included on the Diocese of Norwich list with credible allegations of sexual abuse of a minor. His name was also included on the Jesuits Northeast Province list with credible allegations of sexual abuse of a minor.

Owens' whereabouts and whether he has access to children are unknown.
