Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Leger Tremblay:

Fr. Leger Tremblay (aka Joseph Cyrias (J.C.) Leger Tremblay) was ordained a priest in 1948, and served in the Diocese of Shreveport. According to media reports, Fr. Tremblay was removed from the priesthood in 1987 following an allegation of "an attempted, unwanted physical advance toward a minor." The alleged incident occurred while Fr. Tremblay was serving in Shreveport.

In 2005, a plaintiff filed a lawsuit against the Diocese of Alexandria alleging that he was raped by Fr. Tremblay in the summer of 1955 when he was 14 years old. The alleged incident occurred in a car during a trip to Cow Island, LA. The driver of the vehicle, a seminary student named Donald McCarthy, who later became priest, physically assisted in the attack. Afterwards, the plaintiff was silenced by warning and threats. According to the suit, the plaintiff met with Bishop Friend in July 2004, at which time Friend confirmed that the Fr. Tremblay was a known pedophile who had been abusing minors since 1952.The Diocese of Alexandria reached settlements with Fr. Tremblay's alleged victims in 2004 and 2005.

In February 2019, the Diocese of Alexandria included Fr. Tremblay's name on its list of "clergy duly incardinated or at one time serving in the Diocese of Alexandria accused of sexual misconduct and abuse of minors by allegations brought by victims or by written testimony." The list noted multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse of male minors dating back to the 1950s and1960s against Fr. Tremblay. These allegations were brought before the Permanent Review Board in 2003 and 2005.

A review of Fr. Tremblay's file in 2019 found further evidence of sexual misconduct and abuse of male minors, and the board deemed the evidence as credible. The details of the allegations, including the information about the age/gender of his alleged victim/victims, the nature of the alleged sexual abuse, and Tremblay's assignments at the time of the alleged abuse are unknown. During his 53 years as a parish priest, Fr. Tremblay served in parishes in Plaucheville, Marksville, Evergreen, Alexandria, Jena, Ferriday, Mansfield, and Shreveport, which was part of the Diocese of Alexandria before the Diocese of Shreveport was founded in 1986.

Fr. Tremblay died in 2002.
