Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Donald Rogers
In February 2019, the Diocese of Alexandria publicly named Fr. Donald Rogers on its list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor. According to the list, Fr. Roger's file revealed evidence of sexual misconduct and abuse of a male minor in 1962.
In 1967, the diocese removed Fr. Rogers from the ministry. He was laicized-stripped of his clerical title-in 1974. The diocese provided no further information about Fr. Roger's assignment history nor his whereabouts in the years after his removal.
Further details about the nature and scope of the abuses in Fr. Donald's Roger's file is also unclear. In its report, the Diocese of Alexandria stated the Permanent Review Board, which evaluates all allegations of clerical sexual misconduct involving minors, reviewed the 1962 allegation in 2004. They deemed the allegation credible.
However, in 2019, a review of Fr. Roger's file revealed evidence of more sexual abuse allegations, the diocese said. The Permanent Review Board investigated the evidence in Fr. Roger's file and determined the allegations were credible.
