Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Lucien Mandeville:

Fr. Lucien Mandeville was ordained a priest in 1935. During his 38 years as a priest in Maine, he served parishes in Augusta, Fort Kent, Sanford, Lewiston, Rumford, Waterville, Oquossoc, Dover-Foxcroft, Old Town, Winslow, Dexter, and Lisbon Falls. According to media reports, in 2002, a woman reported that a fellow parishioner told her  Fr. Mandeville sexually abused him when he was between 7-8 years old in 1944, while the priest was assigned to St. Mary’s Church in Lewiston, ME. Fr. Mandeville reportedly took the boy for a drive and then to dinner. On the way back, Mandeville kissed the boy, fondled him, forced him to touch his penis, and put lipstick on him.

In 2002, another allegation against Fr. Mandeville was reported by a man who claimed he had been sexually abused the priest in the 1950’s. The alleged victim was between 13-14 years old at the time of the abuse. The man also reported that he believed Fr. Mandeville sexually abused his younger brother. Details regarding the nature of the alleged sexual abuse and Fr. Mandeville’s assignment at the time of the incident(s) was not provided by the Diocese of Portland.

In 2005, the Diocese of Portland publicly named Fr. Mandeville as a priest accused of sexually abusing minors. Documents released by the Maine Attorney General’s office in 2005 cite another unspecified allegation of sexual abuse against the priest.

Fr. Mandeville retired in 1973 and died in 1984.
