Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Peter Gorham:

Fr. Peter Gorham was ordained to the priesthood in 1953, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Portland. According to media reports, a statement given by Bishop Richard Malone notes an allegation of child sexual abuse in 1953 against Fr. Gorham was received in 1995. Information about the age/gender of his alleged victim/victims, the nature of the alleged sexual abuse, and Gorham’s assignment at time of the alleged abuse was not released.

Fr. Gorham was allowed to retire in 1996. In January 2007, the Vatican removed him from ministry and ordered him to a life of prayer and penance, which is generally applied to people who are very old or in poor health. His name was also included on the Diocese of Portland’s list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse.

Fr. Gorham died in 2009.
