Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Monsignor William O’Hanlon

Born in Ireland, Monsignor William O’Hanlon worked in the Diocese of Alexandria and Diocese of Shreveport for over five decades. O’Hanlon was accused in a lawsuit filed in February 2022 of sexually abusing a minor while serving at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church in Shreveport. According to the lawsuit, Msgr. O’Hanlon sexually abused the victim between 1966 and 1968, beginning when the victim was 6 or 7 years old.

O’Hanlon died in 2001, 21 years before the accusations came to light. There could be other victims. In June 2021, Louisiana lawmakers joined states across the country by opening a three-year window for survivors of child sexual abuse to file lawsuits against those responsible for their abuse.
