Summary of Abuse Allegations Against Father Francis Bourbon:
Father Francis Bourbon was a Jesuit priest who worked in the Archdiocese of Baltimore and the Diocese of Richmond. In 2019, Fr. Bourbon was listed on the Archdiocese of Baltimore and the Diocese of Scranton’s Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of Minors list. In April 2023, Maryland’s Attorney General released a report alleging 156 Catholic clergy members sexually abused at least 600 children over six decades. The report lists the names of the abusers, including Father Bourbon.
According to media reports, in December 2018, Father Francis Bourbon was named publicly on the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus list of Jesuits with credible allegations of sexual abuse of minors since 1950. It noted a “single allegation of an unwanted kiss.” The incident is alleged to have occurred around 1985 in Buckingham, VA.
Notably, a single incident of “an unwanted kiss” does not likely rise to the standard of misconduct required for a clergy member’s inclusion on a list of credibly accused priests. This would suggest, at least initially, that Bourbon was the subject of an allegation far more serious than a single kiss.
According to the Jesuits, Bourbon died in 2007.
