Summary of Abuse Allegations Against Father Martin Demek
Fr. Martin Demek was ordained a Catholic priest in 1975 and worked in various parishes in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. In early 2021, the archdiocese received an allegation of child sexual abuse against Father Martin Demek that was immediately reported to law enforcement. According to the original charges, the alleged abuse began in about 1989 when the victim was about 11 years old. The incidents were said to have happened at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Manchester. Demek denied the charges and law enforcement did not file criminal charges against Demek. In April of 2021, the archdiocese opened an investigate into the allegation. Father Demek was then suspended from ministry pending the outcome of the investigation. The archdiocese released a public statement concerning the allegation and the reason for Father Demek’s suspension. The investigation concluded that the evidence does not substantiate that Fr. Demek engaged in child sexual abuse and was returned to active ministry one year later to his position as pastor of Corpus Christi Church.
