Mehul Dixit, a pediatric nephrologist since 2004, has been arrested in Hinds County, Mississippi. He is charged with two felony counts of sexual battery of a vulnerable person.  A pediatric nephrologist is a children’s kidney and urinary tract specialist.  According to law enforcement records, in one charge, Dixit is accused of sexual abuse of a 17-year-old pediatric patient during a February 2023 physical examination at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). The patient told law enforcement that Dr. Dixit touched her inappropriately with his finger.  A second allegation involved a 13-year-old pediatric patient who reports that Dixit fondled her breasts and touched her inappropriately with an ungloved hand during a 2013 exam related to kidney stones.  The girl’s mother and a nurse were in the exam room but were not able to see what Dixit was doing with his hands. The second alleged incident was reported in September 2013 to UMMC, according to the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure.  A Hinds County judge set Dr. Dixit’s bond at $300,000 and prohibited Dixit from having contact with anyone under 18 years old.  Dr. Dixit’s employment at UMMC was terminated.  He is also prohibited from having contact with anyone who works at UMMC.

Upon receiving the most recent complaint, medical board investigators reviewed the doctor’s licensure file and found another complaint against Dr. Dixit made in 2016 alleging sexual misconduct. The then-17-year-old patient recounted the events from a medical appointment in 2006 in Orlando, Florida. She said that during an exam for kidney stones, Dixit had her remove all her clothes and asked her mother to leave the room. According to the board document, Dixit then fondled the girl’s breasts and touched her vagina with his ungloved hands.  No actions were taken in 2016 to limit Dr. Dixit’s access to minors.

Mehul Dixit, age 59, is board certified in pediatric nephrology.  He previously practiced medicine at Florida Hospital in Orlando, Florida, before moving to Madison, Mississippi.  Dr. Dixit’s medical license in Mississippi has been suspended pending the disposition of the criminal case.
