Sister Francis Marie Yocum

Died: 1994

Assignment History:

  • 1950s: Sisters of St. Francis (Philadelphia, PA)
  • 1950s Music Teacher, The Catholic High School (Baltimore, MD)

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Sister Francis Marie Yocum

Sister Francis Marie Yocum was one of the 156 individuals identified by the Maryland Attorney General as having been accused of sexually abusing minors during her tenure with the Archdiocese of Baltimore.  Sr. Yocum was a member of the Sisters of Saint Francis of Philadelphia.

According to the AG's report, in 2012, Sr. Yocum was accused of sexually abusing a student of hers in 1954 while Yocum was a music teacher at The Catholic High School of Baltimore, an all-girls preparatory school. The victim was a student, 17 or 18 years old, receiving private vocal lessons from Sr. Yocum over the course of a year. Yocum was a longtime music teacher at the school and led the glee club and a cappella choir, according to the report. She also wrote the school's song.

Yocum's name does not appear on the Archdiocese of Baltimore's list of clergy credibly accused of sexual misconduct.

The auditorium at Catholic High School of Baltimore was named for Yocum, but following the allegation detailed in the Attorney General report, it is set to be renamed.
