Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Brother Edward Powers:

Br. Edward “Kryin” Powers joined the Brothers of St Francis Xavier and worked in multiple parishes in the Archdiocese of Baltimore in Maryland and the Diocese of Brooklyn, NY. In 2019, Br. Powers’ name appeared on the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of Minors list and also on the Xaverian Brothers’ list of deceased brothers credibly accused of sexual misconduct with a minor. In April 2023, Maryland’s Attorney General released a report alleging 156 Catholic clergy members sexually abused at least 600 children over six decades. The report lists the names of the abusers, including Brother Powers.

According to media reports, in 2013, he was accused of sexually abusing a child in Brooklyn, New York in 1970. Powers left the Xaverian Brothers in 1988. According to a blog published by a former student, after Powers left his religious order, he returned to his birth name of Ed Powers and worked in an education post in New York City.  In 2021, a lawsuit was filed alleging that Brother Kryin Powers sexually abused a male student at Xaverian High School in 1974.

Br. Powers died in 2001.
