Dn. John Justice – Archdiocese of Baltimore

Deacon John Justice

Archdiocese of Baltimore

Ordained: 1974

Died: 2015

Assignment History:

  • 1975-1989: St. Louis (Clarksville, MD)
  • 1989-1990: Bon Secours Hospital (Baltimore, MD)

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Deacon John Justice:

Deacon John Justice was ordained in 1974 and worked in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. In April 2023, Maryland's Attorney General released a report alleging 156 Catholic clergy members sexually abused at least 600 children over six decades. The report lists the names of the abusers, including Deacon John Justice.

According to the Attorney General's report, in 1989, Deacon Justice was accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl in 1985 at the St. Louis Church. When confronted, Justice admitted to the abuse. Justice had his faculties removed shortly after. In 1995, Justice wrote a letter requesting his faculties to be reinstated, stating that he admitted to the misconduct with the young girl and asked for forgiveness. Because the family of the victim did not want to press charges or file a civil action, the case was "exceptionally cleared," meaning it was closed "with the awareness that the event did actually happen." Justice continued to ask for reinstatement, and the Archdiocese denied all requests.

Deacon Justice died in 2015.
