Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father David G. Smith:

Fr. David G. Smith was ordained a Catholic priest and worked in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. In 2002, Fr. Smith was listed on the Archdiocese of Baltimore's Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of Minors list. In April 2023, Maryland's Attorney General released a report alleging 156 Catholic clergy members sexually abused at least 600 children over six decades. The report lists the names of the abusers, including Father David G. Smith.

According to the Attorney General's report, a man reported in 2002 having been sexually abused by Fr. Smith beginning in 1973 when the victim was 15 years old. The victim and his family were parishioners at St. Mark, where they met Fr. Smith and would invite him over for dinner. Fr. Smith and the victim were involved in the youth ministry and met through the Catholic Youth Organization. Fr. Smith would bring the victim to the rectory at St. Mark, where he would sexually abuse the victim. The abuse occurred every few weeks over the course of 3 years. The victim entered a legal settlement with the Archdiocese.

In 2002, the Office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore County charged Fr. Smith with perverted practice, to which Fr. Smith pled guilty and received a sentence of probation.  He was then placed on a leave of absence, in which he received pay and benefits, which continued until his retirement.

The AG's report also states that Fr. Smith was sent to St. Luke's Institute for treatment in the 1990s. In May 2017, Smith was interviewed by a mental health professional at the request of the Archdiocese. Smith disclosed that he had long been victimized by multiple members of the Catholic Church, beginning when he was 13.
