Summary of Abuse Allegations Against Brother Carmelo Garcia:

A native of Spain, Br. Carmelo Garcia was a member of the Franciscan Friars of the Province of Saint Barbara. Brother Carmelo García was sent to Santa Barbara, California, and worked in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Garcia was accused of acts of sexual abuse on minors between 1988 and 1991. He left the order in 1989 and returned to Spain, according to a “List of Franciscan Friars from the St. Barbara Province with Credibly (sic) Claims of Sexual Abuse of a Minor published in 2019. The Franciscan order admits that it learned of his abuses back in 1998, although the information was only made public in 2019.
