Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Brother Santiago Almaguer:
A native of Mexico, Br. Santiago Almaguer was a member of the Franciscan Friars of the Province of Saint Barbara, part of what is formally known as the Order of Friars Minor. In 2018, Fr. Alamaguer was named on the Diocese of Las Cruces’ list of “Priests and Religious Credibly Accused of sexual abuse of minors who have served within the current territorial boundaries of the Diocese of Las Cruces.” According to this list, a report was made in 2012 alleging that Fr. Alamaguer sexually abused a minor from approximately 1975 to 1978.
In 2019, Fr. Alamaguer was included in the “List of Franciscan Friars from the St. Barbara Province with Credibly (sic) Claims of Sexual Abuse of a Minor” in the section “Former Province of St. Barbara Friars who have been Credibly Accused who have Left the Order.” According to this list, a report was made in 1979 alleging that Fr. Alamaguer sexually abused a minor in approximately 1978. The Franciscan Friars’ list also states that Fr. Alamaguer returned to the Mexico Province in 1979.
