Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Fr. John Hagerty:

Fr. John Hagerty was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Erie in 1955 and worked in multiple parishes during his 50-year career. According to the Diocese of Erie, Father Hagerty was “credibly accused” of sexual misconduct.  Hagerty was added to the “credibly accused” list in November 2024. As of December 2024, there are 92 people on the Diocese’s list who the diocese has determine to have been “credibly accused.”  In the case of Hagerty, the Diocese did not make a public announcement, but instead simply added Hagerty to its online list.  The Diocese of Erie website defines “credibly accused” to mean that the allegations against Father Hagerty were corroborated and determined to be credible by at least one of the following: (1) secular legal proceedings, (2) canon law proceedings, (3) self-admission by the individual, or (4) threshold evidence as defined in the Diocese of Erie’s Policy for the Protection of Children.

Father Hagerty died in 2013 at age 83/
