On May 16, 2025, Andrew Howard Whaley, a former Boy Scout leader from Cumming, Georgia, was arrested on child molestation charges in Lumpkin and Forsyth counties (about a 70-mile drive northeast of downtown Atlanta.) Whaley, 61, was held at the Lumpkin County Jail and charged with one count of aggravated child molestation, one count of child molestation, and one count of possession of child pornography. He also faces additional charges in Forsyth County, including six counts of creation of child pornography and 13 counts of eavesdropping and surveillance.
According to media reports, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation accused Whaley of sexually abusing a boy he met during his time as a Scout leader. The GBI said it began investigating child molestation accusations against Whaley in April after being contacted about a child molestation allegation in Lumpkin County. Search warrants were executed at Whaley's cabin and a business in Lumpkin County. During their investigation, GBI discovered a hidden camera used to record and film minors in a bathroom at Whaley's Forsyth County home, along with child pornography found during searches of his cabin and business in Lumpkin County. Authorities didn't say when the reported abuse occurred or if there could be more victims. The investigation is ongoing, but once complete, the case will be forwarded to the Enotah Circuit and Bell-Forsyth District Attorney’s Offices for prosecution.
