Summary of Abuse Allegations Against Brother Joseph (Cuthbert) Thibault:

Br. Joseph (Cuthbert) Thibault joined the Brothers of St. Francis Xavier in 1933 and worked in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Boston, Brooklyn, and Connecticut. In 2019, Br. Thibault was listed on the Archdiocese of Baltimore's Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of Minors list. In April 2023, Maryland's Attorney General released a report alleging 156 Catholic clergy members sexually abused at least 600 children over six decades. The report lists the names of the abusers, including Br. Thibault.

According to media reports, in 2005, he was named in a civil lawsuit alleging sexual abuse of a minor male student at Mission High School, in Boston, Massachusetts, from 1956 to 1957. The suit involved multiple plaintiffs and named multiple priests as defendants. Other allegations of sexual abuse were reportedly made against Thibault that allegedly occurred in Baltimore, Maryland, and Roxbury, Massachusetts, in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

The AG's report states that in 2007 a victim reported to the Archdiocese that during his junior or senior year of high school, 1961 or 1962, he was molested by Thibault. Thibault was the librarian and Glee Club instructor at Mount Saint Joseph's High School. The victim said he reported this to the school principal, who told the archdiocese and notified the Xaverians.

Along with the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Br. Thibault was named on the Xaverian Brothers' list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors in 2019. Br. Thibault died in 1971.
