Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Brother Lawrence Meegan:
Br. Lawrence (Luanus) Meegan was a member of the Brothers of St Francis Xavier and worked in multiple parishes in the Archdiocese of Baltimore in Maryland and Kentucky. In 2019, Br. Meegan was listed on the Archdiocese of Baltimore's Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of Minors list. In April 2023, Maryland's Attorney General released a report alleging 156 Catholic clergy members sexually abused at least 600 children over six decades. The report lists the names of the abusers, including Brother Meegan.
According to the Attorney General's report, in 1995, a victim reported having been sexually abused by Br. Meegan at St. Mary's Industrial School in Baltimore, beginning in 1945 when the victim was 13 years old and continuing until the victim was 16. In 1945, a court sentenced the victim to attend St. Mary's Industrial School, a reform school run by Xaverian Brothers. Br. Meegan sexually abused the victim in various places throughout St. Mary's Industrial School. Br. Meegan took the victim and another student to the school's pool and showers, where he directed the victim to masturbate while he watched.
In 2019, Br. Meegan's name appeared on the Archdiocese of Baltimore's Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of Minors list and on the Xaverian Brothers' list of brothers credibly accused of sexual misconduct with a minor.
Brother Meegan died in 1977.
