Summary of Abuse Allegations against Deacon John Miller:
Deacon John C. Miller served in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. According to media reports, in July 2019, he was placed on administrative leave following allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor, forbidden from doing ministry or presenting himself as a deacon, while the Diocese's preliminary internal investigation was pending, "which was delayed due to grave health issues Deacon Miller was facing," said Father Vaskov. Law enforcement is also aware of the allegation.
According to media reports, Miller was actually removed from his assigned at St. Teresa of Avila parish in Ross Township in 2018, but there was no formal announcement made at the time. Miller denied the allegation.
The deacon faces a "canonical process," or proceedings under church law. Under the current policy, any clergy found to have engaged in substantiated cases of sexual misconduct with a minor are barred from ministry.
