Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Alberto Battagliola:

In 2003, a victim filed a lawsuit against the Diocese of Monterey for having done nothing to stop Fr. Alberto Battagliola from molesting him as a child. The sexual misconduct took place in 1974 with a 14-year-old altar boy in San Luis Obispo in California when Battagliola was a priest at the San Luis Obispo Mission.

The victim claimed that Fr. Alberto Battagliola would visit the then 14-year-old boy at his house often and went driving around town together. He manipulated and took advantage of the situation by intoxicating the boy and as a result, Battagliola spread a sexually transmitted disease to the 14-year-old altar boy in San Luis Obispo in California. About 2 years later, Battagliola left San Luis Obispo to serve in Our Lady of Refuge in Castroville, CA.

According to Bishop Accountability, the victim who is now a middle-aged adult has a drug habit as well as sexual and emotional problems that continue today. Battagliola’s name publicly appeared on the diocese list of clergymen credibly accused/sued of sexual misconduct in 2019.

In 1977, Fr. Battagliola was murdered in a San Francisco motel.
