Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Alvaro Guichard:
Fr. Alvaro Guichard was ordained in the Archdiocese of Miami in 1969.
In 2002, Guichard was accused in a lawsuit of sexual abuse of a teenage boy in the 1970s. The former altar boy at Church of the Little Flower was abused between 1975 and 1977 by the reverends Ricardo Castellanos and Alvaro Guichard. According to the lawsuit, when the plaintiff was approximately 14-15 years old, Guichard and Castellanos each would sexually molest him on a frequent and regular basis with the knowledge and consent of the other.
In 2003, another civil suit was filed and Guichard was again placed on leave. In addition, there were three former Cuban refugees who said they were abused by him in the early 1980s. Overall, Guichard was named in at least five suits.
Criminal charges were not pursued due to the statute of limitations. At the time, Guichard was reinstated as pastor after 15 months on leave and two sexual abuse complaints. The Archdiocese of Miami could not prove the allegations.
In 2006, Guichard filed suits against his accuser's attorney and the family of a deceased accuser. He filed another suit a month later. Five plaintiffs are known to have settled claims. There was a church trial held in 2007.
In 2020, Guichard was listed in the Office of Statewide Prosecution's Report On Sexual Abuse In the Catholic Church In Florida.
