Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Anthony Conmy:

According to media reports, in 1955, Bishop Jerome Hannan was advised by one of his pastors that Fr. Anthony Conmy was the subject of gossip in a West Hazleton parish.  According to the documents, Conmy "is exposed to a danger because of a friendship which is not good for him and which is the occasion of gossip."  It was suggested that Conmy be transferred to a new parish, particularly "one of the more remote parishes where the occasion would be remote." The bishop later met with Conmy, who agreed the move might do him some good. He was assigned to a new parish shortly thereafter.

According to media reports, in 2008, a woman contacted the Diocese of Scranton to report that she was sexually abused by Conmy as a 10 year old girl in 1969.  She indicated that the abuse occurred in a car as he was driving her home from the parish. He detoured into a forest, held her down, and sexually assaulted her as he covered her mouth so she could not scream.

Conmy died in 1979.  It is unclear if he remained in ministry until his death or not.  It appears from his assignment history in The Official Catholic Directory that he was in active ministry at St. Mary's Assumption at the time of his death.

In 2018, he was first named publicly as accused in the PA Grand Jury Report. His name was also included on  Diocese of Scranton list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse.
