Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Edmond Parrakow:
According to media reports, in 1985, Fr. Edmond Parrakow was accused of sexually abusing a minor boy in the early 1970s. He was sent for treatment at the Foundation House, operated by the Servants of the Paraclete, in Jemez Springs, New Mexico. While in treatment, he admitted to molesting approximately 35 male children during his 17 years as a priest and was diagnosed with pedophilia. The doctor who conducted the July 22, 1985, interview with Parrakow reached the following conclusion:
"My impression is that he [Parrakow] certainly has pedophilia. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind. The real issue with treating him is going to be giving him insight and helping to motivate him to change his behavior. I am not sure the level of motivation that is within him right now [sic]. Basically, if he had not got caught he would be continuing the behavior without really thinking that it was really not that harmful [sic]."
In 1986, at the request of the Archdiocese of New York, Parrakow was transferred without restrictions, to the Diocese of Greensburg. In January 1989, a second allegation of child sexual abuse was made against him, and he returned to New York that February.
In February 2004, a lawsuit alleged he sexually abused two brothers at St. Peter's in the early 1970s, when one of the boys was 10 years old. The suit said that Parrakow plied them with alcohol and porn and the abuse included oral rape. It also accused him of transporting a third boy to Pennsylvania in 1975 and abusing him there. Parrakow was laicized in 2004.
In August 2018, Father Parrakow's name was Included in the PA Grand Jury report. In April 2019, his name appeared on the Archdiocese of New York's list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. Claims against him are eligible to be settled through the Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program (IRCP). His current whereabouts are unknown.
