Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Louis Rios:

Fr. Louis J. Rios was ordained an Assumptionist priest of the Archdiocese of New York in approximately 1966. He also served in the dioceses of Worcester MA, San Juan PR, and Boston MA. According to a complaint, in February 2004, he was named in a lawsuit accusing him of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl from 1973 through 1976 at Our Lady of Esperanza Catholic Church in Washington Heights. The abuse occurred about four times a year. When she got pregnant, he offered her money from the NY parish collection and urged her to get an abortion.

It all started when Rios knew the girl from the catechism class. He offered her GED tutoring and then used confidence about her violent father to begin the abuse and force her silence. She reported the abuse and the pregnancy to the pastor of Our Lady of Esperanza, as well as other employees at the parish church. They promised to help after the baby was born but did not. They told her not to tell anyone what Rios had done to her and moved him to another parish. According to media reports, Rios left for Puerto Rico after she became pregnant.

It is believed Rios died in 2004.
