Fr. Marcin Nurek – Diocese of Paterson

Father Marcin Nurek

Diocese of Paterson

Father Marcin Nurek

Ordained: July 2017

Removed/arrested: August 2017

Assigned as follows:

  • St. Catherine of Siena (Mountain Lakes, NJ)

Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Marcin Nurek:

According to media reports, in August 2017, Fr. Marcin A. Nurek, a brand new priest ordained a month earlier, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual contact. The alleged incident occurred in the town of Boonton, when Nurek put his hand under the girl's skirt and touched her buttocks over her underwear, telling her "You're sexy".

Nurek was ordained a priest on July 1, 2017, and was assigned as parochial vicar at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Mountain Lakes soon thereafter. Following his arrest in August, Nurek was barred from serving as a priest by Bp. Arthur J. Serratelli, but he has not been defrocked.

According to media reports, in May 2018, a judge ordered Nurek to complete an 18-month pretrial intervention program for first-time offenders. If he successfully completes the program and abides by the other terms of the judge's order, the sexual assault and child endangerment charges will be completely dismissed.

A native of Poland, Nurek was in America on a religious work visa and may be deported since he is now unable to work as a priest anywhere in the United States. His current location is unknown.

Nurek's name appears on the Diocese of Paterson February 2019 list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse.
