Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Patrick R. Click:
Patrick R. Click was originally ordained in Lafayette, Indiana but did most of his seminary work in New Orleans. Father Click was one of several priests and religious leaders accused in 2002 of sexual abuse in the late 1960's at Madonna Manor. This was a home in New Orleans for troubled children that Father Click was assigned when he was a seminary student. Patrick R. Click was sued in 2005, and has at least one claim against him included in a $5.2 million settlement with the Archdiocese of New Orleans in Fall of 2009. No specific information has been released about the nature of the abuse or the number of victims who came forward.
In 2013, Bishop Timothy Doherty told parishioners of St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church that he had received an "old allegation" against Father Patrick Click. An anonymous letter was sent regarding the pastor and was threatening to make the matter a public scandal unless Click was removed from the parish. Bishop Doherty refused. As of 2020, Patrick Click is still in active ministry at St. Louis de Montfort in Fishers, Indiana.
In April of 2020, the Archdiocese of New Orleans filed for bankruptcy protection. As part of its bankruptcy, the Archdiocese of New Orleans will be reviewing and paying claims for anyone sexually abused by diocesan priests and lay employees. This will likely include claims filed on behalf of anyone whose case may be beyond the statute of limitations.
