Father Robert Duford was ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of Ogdensburg in 1906. According to media reports, in November 2018, the Diocese released a list of 28 priests who were credibly accused of sexual misconduct with a minor or a vulnerable adult. One name that was first accused publicly of abuse was Father Robert Duford. The number of victims or the time frame that the alleged abuse occurred was not disclosed. It only noted that he died in October 1949, before the list was made public.
Diocesan officials had previously said they would not release the names, largely to protect the privacy of victims. Each name on the list has been internally investigated and the Diocesan Review Board found that the allegations were credible.
